The Best of Texas Awards recognize outstanding achievement using individual communications tools in support of specific public relations objectives. A winning Best of Texas entry demonstrates superior use of the communications tool employed and documents that the rationale and execution led to desired results in support of a specific public relations objective.
Awards Levels – Silver, Bronze and Merit Awards may be given in each Best of Texas category.
Work produced by Texas public relations practitioners may be entered in any of the Best of Texas Awards competition categories. There are no separate categories for For-Profit and Nonprofit employers or clients. An entry may be submitted in more than one category, but a separate fee and entry binder is required for each category entered.
WRITING
BOT 1: Feature Writing
A feature story written for and distributed to external media or for an internal publication, Intranet or Web site.
BOT 2: News Writing
A news story written for an internal publication, E-zine, E-newsletter, Intranet or Web site or written for and distributed to external media.
BOT 3: Opinion Article
An editorial, op-ed piece or column written by the entrant and distributed to one or more publications (internal and/or external).
BOT 4: Special Writing Project
A single piece not eligible for consideration in other writing categories should be entered here.
BOT 5: Speech
A speech written by the entrant and delivered by either the entrant or other speaker.
BOT 6: Blog Writing
Writing for an organization’s blog or a personal blog designed as a public relations tool to support or promote an individual or organization. Submit three posts either in hard copy or by providing the appropriate URL addresses for each post. Be sure to provide any necessary password or log-in information so that judges may access the site.
PUBLICATIONS
BOT 7: Annual Report
A report of the previous year to stockholders and/or stakeholders.
BOT 8: Brochure
A "single-issue" publication designed for internal and/or external audiences.
BOT 9: Electronic Newsletter/E-zine
Submit two consecutive editions of a newsletter posted to a Web site or e-mailed to its audience. Submit printed copies. If the newsletters are archived on a Web site, please submit the URL and any necessary password or log-in information so that judges may access the site.
BOT 10: Magazine
Submit two consecutive issues of a magazine published for an internal or external audience.
BOT 11: Newsletter
Submit two consecutive issues of a serial publication written and printed for an internal or external audience.
BOT 12: Special Purpose Publication
Books, Special Reports, White Papers, Single Issue Newsletters, etc. should be submitted in this category.
AUDIOVISUAL
BOT 13: Digital Presentation
A slide or multimedia presentation delivered to achieve public relations objectives. Submit on DVD.
BOT 14: Special Video Project
For internal or external audiences, or for both. Submit on DVD.
BOT 15: Video New Release
Submit on DVD.
OTHER CATEGORIES
BOT 16: Media Kit
Entries in this category should either target media audiences with general information or be project-specific. Digital media kits entered in this category may be submitted on DVD or a live Web site. If you choose the Web site form of entry, please submit the URL and any necessary password or log-in information so that judges may access the site for judging. If you choose the Web site form of entry, you should also submit screen captures or a printed copy of pages in case Internet access fails during judging.
BOT 17: Series
A planned sequence of print or audiovisual materials or other public relations tools prepared and distributed over a defined time period to achieve specific public relations goals.
BOT 18: Webcast/Webinar
A Web site-based, one-way or interactive presentation. Entries in this category may be submitted on DVD. If the entry is archived on a Web site, provide the URL and any necessary password or log-in information so that judges may access the site for judging.
BOT 19: Web Site
Internet or Intranet sites should be entered in this category. Submit the URL and any necessary password or log-in information so that judges may access the site for judging. You should also submit screen captures or a printed copy of pages in case Internet access fails during judging.
