Web 2.0 Boot camp (continued)
Based on feedback from the attendees, the seminar was a huge success, where straight talk about competing social media platforms was combined with hands-on instruction. It was so good, we’re considering offering it again next year.
Special thanks are due Texas State University and Dr. Judy Oscam for hosting and assisting in developing the event, TPRA President-Elect Scott White and his committee for delivering world-class growth opportunities for our members, and Board Member Christina Moore, for raising the bar for MC professionalism to a whole new level. She came dressed in Marine Corps fatigues and conducted the meeting in Corps style (with tongue firmly in cheek).
If Web 2.0 and current trends in Twittering, texting, and Del.icio.us are making you dizzy, let me assure you there’s a cure. Dr. TPRA was there to heal, and all you had to do was show up, preferably with a WI-FI equipped laptop. Thanks to all involved and our excellent speakers for making this fall seminar a special success.
Another successful TPRA event

On Friday, November 7, 2008 at the TPRA PR BOOT CAMP 2.0: A Hands-On Guide to Surviving the Onslaught of Social Media, attendees started the day with a look at the latest advances and trends in social media. They then took a behind-the-scenes look at how Round Rockʼs award-winning social media specialists are using the latest technology to communicate with constituents, promote their communities and build their brands. After a bite to eat with a question and answer session with 'the experts', attendees received a journalistʼs perspective on the presidential candidatesʼ use of blogs andother New Media initiatives to get their message out to specific audiences. They also looked at the impact of New Media on the way journalists covered the election and what those who work with the news media on a daily basis can learn. Attendees also received real-life examples of how non-profit organizations are using social media to attract new members, raise funds, mobilize their constituents. To end the day, all of the attendees met at the local TGI Friday's for an Old School Networking Happy Hour.
Thank you to all who attended, the speakers, workshop committee and our host, Texas State University for another successful TPRA sponsored event!

Become a TPRA Industry Patron
The Texas Public Relations Association has been keeping communicators in Texas ahead of industry trends and developments for more than 50 years now, and the coming 12 months may be our busiest ever. That's because Web-2, social media, RSS and business blogs are dominating discussions among communicators as we do our best to discern which new options are truly useful and which are gadgety trends.
As in the past, professional communicators are turning to TPRA to help master new tools and evaluate new technologies. This presents a great opportunity for you to provide highly visible help as a TPRA Industry Patron.
